History of Freihofer Baking Company
Freihofer Baking Company was established in Pennsylvania in 1884. Due to its popularity in 1913, Freihofer Baking Company opened a location in Troy, New York. In 1914, Freihofer opened a plant in Schenectady, New York, and in 1915, another plant was opened in Albany, New York. Freihofer is famous for being the nation’s first computerized bakery in 1984. General Foods purchased Freihofer Baking Company in 1987 and then sold it to Best Foods. All operations were moved to the two plants in Albany—a bread-making plant was built in 1972 and a cake plant was built in 1979. Bimbo Bakeries purchased Freihofer Baking Company in 2009. The company has more than 700 employees who manufactured baked goods that are sold throughout New England, New Jersey, and New York.
