New York State Electric and Gas Corporation’s Hickling power plant was created in 1948. It is a medium power-producing plant in Corning, New York. The plant was initially meant to provide power to Elmira and Waverly. The plant has two coal-fired boilers and turbines. The Hickling power plant was open for 50+ years prior to being acquired by AES.
The Hickling plant, which ran adjacent to the Chemung Basin River, utilized 75 million gallons of water per day. This water was pumped to Hickling’s coal-fired boilers. Pump stations used circulating pumps, condenser pumps and fluid pumps in addition to valves, gauges, and governors.
Unfortunately, many of our clients who worked at NYSEG’s Hickling power plant are now being diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer. Laborers regularly worked with asbestos gaskets, seals, and packing. When various machinery was repaired or replaced, asbestos dust was emitted into the air and inhaled by workers.
At Belluck & Fox, our nationally recognized asbestos attorneys have extensive experience fighting for families and workers exposed to asbestos. We are proud to have secured more than $1 billion so far for asbestos victims and their families.
