Allegheny Ludlum Steel (Dunkirk)
When Ludlum Steel and the Allegheny Steel Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania merged in 1938, they created the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation. In 2002, Universal Stainless and Alloy Products bought the buildings and plot and named their new company Dunkirk Specialty Steel. The Allegheny Ludlum Steel Dunkirk plant was over 80 acres large.
Unfortunately, many laborers who worked at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Dunkirk are just now being diagnosed with mesothelioma. Prior to the late 1970s, asbestos-containing packing material, gaskets, pipe covering, insulating cement and block insulation were installed, repaired, and removed at the plant.
